A private eye and friend of Mannix's turn up dead, apparently drowned. But Mannix believes there's more involved... as do the two men who abduct Peggy and Toby and demand Mannix turn the evidence over to him.

Mannix comes into possession of a role of film that cost a fellow private eye his life. Before Mannix can turn the film over to the police, Peggy and her son are taken hostage in exchange for the film. The kidnapping is done with such efficiency that Peggy doesn’t even realize she’s being held by a gang of bankrobbers whose leader is pictured on the film.
