Born in Toronto, Ontario, Christopher Plummer, in a career that spanned over six decades, was among the greatest stage and screen actors. Living in New York in 1953, he began appearing on Broadway, eventually returning to Canada in 1956 to portray Henry V in the Stratford Festival's final year under the big tent. He then went on to London, working in Royal Shakespeare Company productions well into the 1960s. He first appeared on screen in a 1972 episode of Encounter, also known as General Motors Presents.
