Legion Premiere

Guys, I know it's only February, and I may regret saying this, but what am I if not passionate. I think I may have found my new favorite television show of 2017. It's one of the best, nay I'll say it, the best comic book adaptation I've ever seen and I've watched a lot of television and movie adaptations. The style, the writing, the storytelling, are all so damn good it gives me chills just thinking about it. Matter of fact, I may watch the first episode again just because it was that good.

Legion stars Dan Stevens who plays David Haller who may just be the strongest mutant on the face of the planet either that or he’s plain crazy or maybe it’s a bit of both. We don't really know and neither does he. Yes, I know what you're going to say, "Ugh. Another superhero show? Don't we already have Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders?” To which I would respond yes we do, BUT, those shows have become incredibly formulaic. Don't get me wrong, I was a huge fan of Daredevil when it first came out but then I saw that Netflix formula repeated, to some extent with Jessica Jones, Daredevil season 2, and Luke Cage, which I didn’t even get round to starting. I have absolutely no interest in seeing Iron Fist or The Defenders. The series don't have enough plot and have way too many episodes.

But Legion is different. First off, it feels and is shot like a comic book. It's as if you're glancing over the page, skip ahead and you notice something in another panel out of the corner of your eye. The dialogue is also crisp and authentic, there's no monologuing, David has no idea what's going on and neither do we. He seems crazy and nobody buts in to confirm if he is or isn't.

The direction is fantastic for this show, it was created, written, and directed by Noah Hawley, who also created the FX drama Fargo adaptation, which I'm absolutely enamored with. Noah has clearly put a lot of effort into the show, it’s in the shots he chooses, how he places the camera, what he focuses on, it's incredible. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. The color correction, the music, the setting, everything about this show is very very unusual and incredibly interesting.

And Dan Stevens, good lord don't get get me started here. The fluidity he shows in this role is fantastic as he goes from harmless, to confused, to silly, to all powerful - you witness it all, with none of it seeming inauthentic, it seems true to how his character would actually react. It's really quite powerful to witness.

So please check out the trailer below and let me know what you think. I am very much looking forward to the rest of the season and i hope you feel the same way too.

At first I wasn't aware that Legion was another Superhero series. Once I watched the first episode and saw what it had to offer, I told myself that this would be a Great show to watch. If you are looking for a different type of comic book/action show, then check this one out.

Most impressive after 3 épisodes. Definitely one of the most promising show this year. Very clever, very dark (as it should be if you know the comics)

BEST IN SHOW!

If you watch noting else this season, and face it if you're a tv maze member then you're likely to have the tv on most of the time, Legion is the one show not to miss.

There is an auteur theory that if the audience notices things like editing, soundscape, music for atmosphere and all the rest of the funky little tricks they wedge in with a psychologist's crow bar, then they are not doing their job- if they break the barrier of the fourth wall. Well, throw that out the window! Legion uses all of those little tricks, and more, to tell the story, engage the audience, create a world of such stunning reality it crosses into the unreal.

It is no surprise that this show is good, but Marvel and Netflix are on a winner here, and I feel it will be one to keep an eye on when Golden Globes and Emmy time comes around.

Nice one Marvel!
