29 year old Misato has a Spinster Complex, where she has an addiction to Alcohol and Coffee. She is in a relationship for many years. However, she does not want to commit to a relationship because she is afraid of failing at it just like her parents. After learning Shinji was emancipated, she tones down her habits significantly as a result of raising Shinki and Asuka. She was previously employed a scientist and left because of ethical concerns. There is no relief in sight for Misato, as working at N.E.R.V. she frequently runs into walls about her very suspicious assignments. She is the fleet's captain, and later major, and has to order the children to their deaths over and over again. Misato does not approve of this job any more than Shinji does. She is frequently at odds with Ritsuko, who knows much more about N.E.R.V. than Misato does, because Ritsuko sold her soul a long time ago.
