Flora Greysteel

A witty and artistic young lady, the daughter of a physician from Aberdeen, Miss Greysteel shocked everyone in that conservative part of Scotland by falling in love with Lord Byron and following the disgraced poet to the continent, with the intention of falling at his feet and leading a life of recklessness and rhyming couplets. After a rainy summer in Geneva, things seems to have gone amiss between Miss Greysteel and his Lordship, whereupon her father, Dr James Greysteel, came out to snatch her from Byron's company.

We meet them in Venice, where Miss Greysteel is punishing her father by making him go to art galleries. Upon meeting Jonathan Strange, the dashing and dangerous fugitive magician, Miss Greysteel abandons poetry in favour of magic, and gives her father a new potential son-in-law to worry about. However, when a dark cloud envelops Venice in general, and Mr Strange in particular, Flora Greysteel proves herself a heroine worthy of her name: strong, unyielding, and true.
