Ed Higgins

Ed is Eunice's husband, and portrayed by Harvey Korman, the host of Mama's Family. Ed is a mild mannered ordinary man that owns and operates Central Hardware. He is well known by prostitutes, and seems that the entire marriage to Eunice was planned out of rebellion against Thelma. This resulted in even further rift between them, be cause Ed is very much a reminder of Thelma's late husband. In fact, Thelma married severely young, which is also why Thelma is distraught about their dishonest marriage. While the rather mediocre hardware center is thriving, neither Ed nor Eunice nor their children apply any effort at all in the slightest towards their home. Despite Eunice bragging about being better than the rest of her family, this place she stays is a very spartan old house with a kitchen that resembles a laundry room. Ed is a painful reminder and an embarrassment to Eunice that she is not who she wishes to be. One of their children is Bubba Higgins, who brags as much as Eunice does. He picks up many of her bad habits and acts as if he is significant when he simply dresses in fashion trends. Examples include his belly button being hidden in high pants in addition to a constantly tucked in shirt. The only exception is one scene where he is in a half shirt. He also acts as if he is successful with women when in reality he has a large collection of pornography. And of course he picks up the family's bad habits of being drunk. It is up to Thelma to save Bubba from these bad habits, beginning with that one. Most of their family, including her late husband, and Aunt Fran, died drunk. When Eunice finally found success in what is most important to her, Ed and Eunice moved away, giving up on Bubba, and abandoning him since it was much easier to do that instead of wait for Bubba to be released. When Bubba finally does get released, he moves in with Thelma instead of his parents. However, is sad be cause he occasionally is reminded how little time his parents have for him.
