Buttetsu, Batou is the often grey, silver, or white haired fierce man that works at Section 9. He is a former Ranger. All the Rangers have not only cybernetic eyes but also removable extensions on their cybernetic eyes which resemble camera lenses, flash lights, or just light bulbs. According to The Tachikomas, the hosts of Stand Alone Complex, he removes these extensions before sleeping. In the second season, Batou joins Togusa and The Major as Narrators, particularly in the "Trans Parent" episode. He is a perpetual Second In Command behind The Major, or behind Togusa when The Major goes Rogue. The reason why is when he declined offers to lead, preferring to not do things by the book. However, he is unaware that The Major does not want to follow the book either. He is a potential boyfriend for The Major, and prefers to look for The Major so he can convince her to return instead of replacing her. Batou previously successfully kept dogs as pets. Later, he no longer gets along with dogs. Instead, he begins spoiling his personal Tachikoma, which drastically accelerated their evolution. In The Manga, his eye balls with extensions change size based on emotional expression. In addition to his cybernetic eye balls, he has prosthetic arms and legs which frequently gets torn off in battle and replaced again. His expression of compassion when the Major makes a decision that results in her in danger compels him to shout and call her a Bitch. Also, he likes to call The Chief "Old Man" for no reason. Usually his temper is a result of being in a hurry or other very tense situations.
