Xannan Suleman is a nineteen-year-old Somali girl pulled into a dangerous web by the bonds of family and love. Xannan's got plans for university. A couple of years ago she convinced her mother to let her get a job at the community centre and that's where she grew close to Hassan Ali.
At the community center, Xannan worked tutoring elementary kids in math and reading. Hassan was a smart kid who could do math, but stumbled where reading was concerned. Xannan taught him to read proficiently and they fell deeply in love... and he proposed. She wanted to wait until after she was finished school, but Hassan couldn't wait. He met another girl, Avril and that's where they parted ways.
Xannan is devastated by the death of her brother Khaalid and suspects that Hassan knows more than he is saying. Can the man she still loves be responsible for the death of her brother?
