A diamond broker in LA, Fahrid secretly conducted insurance fraud. He contacted diamond boutiques that were going under and offered to "steal" their diamonds. He would then use his contact, Jay Lopez, "clean" the diamonds by removing the serial numbers. Fahrid sold the diamonds back to the boutique owners, and they'd collect the insurance money for the stolen diamonds. The broker paid off insurance adjustor Don Zekiel to look the other way.
Fahrid got greedy and demanded a bigger share, and Don shot him dead.
