Episode Discussion

Cold open was funny but not great. I think everyone is tired of Trump. Nothing is quite as funny as the real thing.

Totally disagree with kyrat's thoughts on Chappelle's monologue. It was genius. What kyrat failed to grasp is the nuances of how Dave set up each premise and in many instances lulled the audience into a sense of comfort and apparent understanding, AND then he would drop the bomb on one's assumptions about oneself and how you understand the world. He sometimes would take the opposing perspective of American society so as to jar the viewer into questioning their beliefs and stance on issues. (ie. gender wage parity, wearing a mask, why you should help a black person that doesn't deserve it, why he has to tell jokes to be heard on critical race issues, etc)

Don't expect punchlines and cliché funny. Be prepared to be offended. He does it for a reason. Use your brain to ask why. And make sure you sign up for Lessons!

Chappelle is a Comedy Prophet as far as I'm concerned. Never thought so before but this monologue has changed my mind. Must view television if you consider yourself WOKE.

The rest of the skits were OK. Aunt Jemima and crew was probably the best. The Foo Fighters were great. A little subdued but still a solid rock legend performance.

That's fair, I can't figure out a way to edit or delete my comment to remove spoilers.

@kyrat  I've just watched the episode but why would you spoil the punchlines of jokes for those who haven't watched it yet?

To discuss the episode without spoiling it for others:

I thoroughly enjoyed it because when comedians tell jokes I don't internalize the jokes, get offended, or take it personally.  I either find the joke funny or I don't, while simultaneously understanding that we all have different tastes. Dave was not in many sketches because like last time he was given free reign to have a lengthy monologue ... it was  funny with a side of truth and heartfelt at times.  There were a couple sketches when the actors had to hold their laughter and I was laughing right alongside them.  My only complaint is that I wished Dave had more time in the sketches.  The  Foo Fighters were great as well.  All in all, this season is off to a great start.

Chappelle's intro was only funny when he suggested people who refuse to wear masks to walmart should just wear their Klan hood.

But otherwise bombed, especially with:

- women are incompetent & deserve half the pay of men.

-comparing his great-grandfather's slavery to his experience of Netflix not paying him for reruns??
