Paladin hears of a businessman who holds an annual desert chase, and buys a camel to compete. He soon learns that the businessman holds the town's water rights and charges exorbitant prices, and sets out to break the man.

At the Carlton, a cavalry captain John is drinking at the bar and complaining about the desert camel corps the U.S. government tried to implement.
