A rancher hires Paladin to ride in a winner-take-all anything-goes Mouli horse race against the local Comanche tribe. The stakes: each sides' respective lands. However, when Paladin accidentally breaks the Comanche rider's arm beforehand, he switches sides and takes the brave's place.

At the Carlton, Paladin is in his suite showing a woman the stars. Hey Boy arrives with a letter offering Paladin $1,000 to participate in a Mouili horse race. Paladin kisses the woman goodbye and tells Hey Boy to pack the bags. Soon, Paladin nears the ranch of Sam Crabbe and sees two Comanche men wrestling.
