Episode Discussion

Blue Bloods season 13 episode 4, titled “Life During Wartime'' is a bit of a misleading title, as the segments aren’t really about a period of armed fighting between two countries. After all, the 3,5000.00 NYC police officers and 8.5 million NY citizens are in the same city and in the same country. The writers of the episode masterfully incorporated yet rehashed the very real tension and clash that exists between NYC cops and some residents of some New York City neighborhoods highlighting that both groups have the feeling and belief of being Under Siege. A segment of the episode focused on reexamining Officer Lester’s action he took 26 months earlier, my guess the event occurred sometime between 2019-2020, when most police activity doesn’t occur in private, away from public’s view thanks to police body cam and taping of video’s from individuals private cell phones. Commissioner Frank Reagan adamantly denies Office Lester did anything inconsistent with policy policy and the officer training and he publicly stands side-by-side to support the officer. As a fan of Blue Bloods, I expected nothing less from the Commissioner and that’s what I love about his character on the show. Even though the episode was old territory, it’s still an interesting topic with the show’s writers gifting us with each memorable line of dialogue that is crisp & smart with perspective being presented by both sides.
