M6 ( abbreviation of Métropole 6 ) is a French national commercial private general-interest television channel that has been broadcasting since 1 March 1987. Since 2011, it's the 3rd most watched channel in France, behind TF1 and the public channel France 2.
The channel is available on the TNT, cable, satellite, xDSL television and Internet.
M6 is the main channel of the M6 Group, which owns other channels including W9, 6ter, Paris Première and Téva. The group is also present in the fields of mobile telephony, distance selling, Internet, football, cinema and the press. Its majority shareholder is RTL Group, itself controlled by the German company Bertelsmann, belonging to the Mohn family.
