Aretha Franklin

Aretha Louise Franklin was born in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a singer and songwriter with 18 Grammy Awards and over 75 million records sold worldwide. Franklin was known as The Queen of Soul. Some of her best know works are the songs "Respect", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", and "Spanish Harlem".

Aretha accumulated many honours throughout her career including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1987), becoming the first female performer to be inducted. She was inducted to the UK Music Hall of Fame (2005), the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame (2012), and is listed in at least two all-time lists on Rolling Stone magazine including the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Aretha has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a National Medal of Arts, a Presidential Medal of Freedom and she was a Kennedy Center Honoree.
