Born in Brooklyn, New York, Nancy Valen was raised in Hallandale, Florida, and by the time she was 12 she had a begun a modeling career, which helped pay her tuition while she was attending Broward Community College. Leaving college she moved to New York to pursue an acting career and in 1986 joined the cast of Ryan's Hope as Melinda Weaver
