Jasmine Gatewood was born January, 1993 in Tampa, Florida to Ms. Antoinette Gatewood and the late Reverend James A. Gatewood. She graduated with her B.A. in Theatre Arts-Performance from Alabama State University, Montgomery, AL, and with her Master's in Acting from California Institute of the Arts School of Theatre, Santa Clarita, CA. She Studied Abroad with a Concentration in Culture at the University of Ulsan, Ulsan, South Korea. She has been awarded numerous awards such as Best Musical Theatre Award performing "I know Him So Well" from Chess at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and Best Supporting Actress in The Color Purple as Shug Avery at Alabama State University. Jasmine has been recognized in LA Times, Hollywood Press, and LA Splash for her role as Eliza in the Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum's Premiere of TOM.
Jasmine has performed in various productions worldwide, such as, Dead Awaken as Muse Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Scotland, U. K., Afrofuturo as Oya at Elcamiente Fabrica Del Arte, Havana, Cuba, The Hendrix Project as Ensemble at California Institute of the Arts and The Bric Theatre: Under the Radar Festival, Brooklyn, New York, Try Step Trip (Spiritrials) as Mary and Ensemble at California Institute of the Arts, A Raisin in the Sun as Beneatha, Dream Girls as Michelle, The Color Purple as Shug Avery and Church Lady Doris, Crowns as Velma, The Whitney Houston Tribute: One Moment in Time as Deborah Cox and Background Vocalist, The Wiz as Addaperle, Richard III as James Tyrell and James Blount, The Colored Museum as Miss Pat and Janine, and A Christmas Carol as Scrooge, just to name a few.
In film, Jasmine performed the Role of Young Rosa in the filmed documentary of First Rosa. She recorded a single "I know What You Gonna Do," Big Akasha Productions. She hosted a radio show on WVAS FM 90.7, "ArtSation: A Conversation with the College of Visual and Performing Arts" for 3 years at Alabama State University. She loves what she does living true to Philippians 4: 13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."
