Mira Nair is an Indian-American filmmaker based in New York City whose production company, Mirabai Films, specializes in films for international audiences on Indian society. Nair attended the University of Delhi in 1975, where she majored in sociology and left the following year to study at Harvard University. Her thesis in sociology was her first documentary, "Jama Masjid Street Journal".
