Born in the village of Kincardine in Fife, Scotland, Shirley Henderson sang and performed in school drama clubs, was accepted into London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and went on to perform on stage with England's National Theatre company, Her first television performance was in the leading role of Elizabeth Findlay in the 1987 series, Shadow of the Stone.
