Born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, Paul W.S. Anderson attended Warwick University where he achieved a first class film degree with honors and an MBA, and began his career as a principal writer for the British crime series El Cid. Turning to feature films, he gained a fair bit of notoriety as writer/director of the controversial 1994 film Shopping.
