Born in Sydney, Odessa Young began acting professionally at the age of eleven, landing a small role in a 2007 episode of the Australian children's show My Place, followed in 2012 with the recurring role of Emma Christie in Tricky Business. Continuing to actively pursue an acting career, she dropped out of school, and at age eighteen she relocated from Australia to the United States.
