The Girl in the Tower Recap

The Past

Alice looks out the window of the tower with her father's spyglass, and then has a party with her dolls for her birthday. She closes her eyes and makes a wish, and realizes that she's still there. The tower shakes and a troll takes the roof off of the tower. He peers down at her and then offers his hand.

Now

Tilly runs down the street to the stone troll, and tells it that she didn't kill Hilda but they think that she did. Rogers pulls up and tells her to get into the car, and apologizes for not listening to Tilly before. she gets in and they drive off.

The Past

In the forest, Alice is secretly looking at her father. Robin confronts her and demands to know who she is, and Alice runs off. She runs into a trap and Robin arrives, and Alice explains that Hook's father is poisoned against her. Robin tells her that she's part of the team and introduces herself, and raises the cage to let Alice go. They hear the troll growl and Alice says that she's been hunting him. Alice tells her that the troll is her friend, but Robin goes off after the troll and Alice follows her.

Now

Regina gives Lucy walkie-talkies for their operation, and Lucy suggests that they use phones instead. The older woman figures they need to figure out everything about Samdi, and Lucy realizes that he's Facilier. Regina says that Zelena can't know, just as Zelena comes over. As they walk home, Zelena watches them.

At Ivy's apartment, Henry makes hot chocolate and suggests that she apologize to Anastasia. Ivy goes to find her and tells Henry that he should be with Jacinda. She assures him that things will get better and he'd better forgive her because he's the first one she owes an apology to. Henry wonders what she means and Ivy tells him that if they had met earlier than she could have made choices. She kisses him on the cheek and goes. A few seconds later, Rogers knocks at the door. When Henry opens it, Rogers brings Tilly out and says that they need somewhere to hide because the police are after them. Henry agrees to let them in.

Alice and Robin go into the nearby town and Alice insists that her friend is the gentlest of trolls. They go into a nearby tavern and find the villagers preparing to fight. A man, Clayton, says that the monster destroyed they're home. He suggests that Robin stay there and guard the women and children, but Robin refuses. Clayton tells his men to look Alice and Robin up because Tilly is clearly crazy.

Now

Rogers asks Henry to provide an alibi for Tilly. Tilly wakes up and Rogers asks where she was when Hilda was killed. However, she doesn't remember because her mind shattered when she saw Gothel. Rogers suggests that they track her moves and finds powdered sugar on her sleeve. He figures that she went by the Rollin' Bayou and tells Tilly to stay there while he and Henry go to check her alibi.

Regina goes to Samdi's apartment and suggests that they go out for lunch on the waterfront. Samdi agrees to cancel everything and go with her. As he gets his coat, Regina secretly puts tape over the door lock. Once they leave, Lucy sneaks in through the door.

Tilly gets bored and looks through Henry's apartment. As she puts her feet up, she finds a piece of paper stuck to her boot. It's a sticker for Hyperion Grocery, and Tilly remembers where she was and leaves and goes to the place. She asks the produce vendor, Mrs. Lewis, to say that she was there. Mrs. Lewis has no idea who she is. Tilly goes into the store and greets the deli owner, Mr. Charles. He doesn't remember her,

The Past

The villagers lock Alice and Robin up, and Alice says that escaping from the tower was a dream come free at first. She realized that being alone was even worse. Robin talks about her childhood in Storybrooke, and she had enough of it one day and escaped in a stolen car for eight hours until the sheriff captured her. She shows Alice a photo of the car on her smartphone, and explains what a smartphone is, and Alice talks about how her father talked about meeting new people. Robin says that her father died when she was a baby, and all she has is his name and his legacy. She slips out of the manacles and breaks open the door, but leaves Alice imprisoned so that she can't stop her from killing the troll.

Now

Regina and Samdi walk on the waterfront, and Sam starts to tell her something. Zelena walks up and hears him mention "Regina", and realizes that he's regained his memories. Samdi leaves to give them some space, and Regina tells Zelena about the plan and calls to warn Lucy that she should escape.

Lucy is busy searching Samdi's apartment and doesn't see her phone light up.

As Tilly walks down the street, Henry and Rogers find her and pull her out of sight. She says that nobody in the Heights know her, and wonders if she exists at all. Rogers assures her that she exists and asks her to backtrack her moves. Tilly does so and finds her backpack in the nearby dumpster. Police sirens sound in the distance and Hook tells her that she's took exposed.

The Past

Clayton and the villagers prepare to go into the troll's forest. Robin shoots an arrow past her ear and asks if they want her help. She says that she's Robin, the daughter of the legendary Robin, and offers to prove it to them. Clayton tells her that she has one shot, The troll approaches and Robin prepares to shoot. Alice tackles her and the arrow goes wide. Clayton tells them both to stay out of his way and prepares to attack Alice, but Robin draws an arrow on him and tells him to leave Tilly alone. He disarms her and the villagers surround them, and the yellow Volkswagen that Robin stole in Storybrooke drives up. They get in and it drives off.

Now

Lucy finds Tarot cards laid out on the table with the Death card in the center. Meanwhile, Regina says that it's Zelena's fault, and Zelena realizes that Regina likes Samdi. Meanwhile, Lucy checks her phone and sees Regina's text warning. She takes a photo of the cards and hides just as Samdi comes in. Once he goes upstairs, Lucy runs out.

Tilly, Rogers, and Henry go back to Henry's apartment and she goes through her backpack. She finds hair clippings there and Rogers explains that the killer took them. He insists that Tilly isn't a killer, but she says that no one knows her and walks out.

The Past

The Volkswagen comes to a stop once the mob falls behind. Robin admits that she was a mean girl in Storybrooke, and she came there to become a different person. Alice made her remember that being Robin is protecting people who need it. Alice thanks her for being on her side, and the troll growls in the distance. Robin agrees to go with Alice to find him.

The two women follow the growling to the tower and Alice says that she hates the place. She hates how she always wanted to come back because at least there she had hope. Alice explains that she's still trapped, just as the troll throws a tree into the tower. Robin and Alice take cove and Robin tells Alice that she has to tell the troll to stop. He comes out of the forest, and Robin says that Alice has the power to create what she wants: she created the Volkswagen and she created the troll on her birthday. Alice realizes that it's her birthday and she didn't want to be alone, and Robin tells her that she saved herself.

The troll picks up the Volkswagen, and Alice steps out and calls to her friend. She thanks him for freeing her and says that now she's okay. Alice tells him that it's a wonderful world and gently touches his nose. He glows and then transforms into the stone troll. She breaks into tears and Robin hugs her.

Now

Tilly goes to the stone troll and asks if she did it. She figures that she's all alone and has to leave before she hurts anyone. She crosses the street and a car almost hits her. Robin--Margot in the real world--arrives and pulls her back, and says that she just got back from Tibet and everyone there talks to statues. She realizes that Tilly is running away, and when she did it she learned that sometimes they just have to face their problems. As Robin goes, Tilly notices that Margot is reading Alice in Wonderland. Once she leaves, Henry and Rogers pull up and Tilly says that she's found someone. There's a security camera in the stone troll's eye, and Tilly figures that he's always seen her and now he can talk.

Samdi goes to the bar and Regina apologizes to him about Zelena. He returns Lucy's hat that she left in his apartment, and Regina admits that she had Lucy break into his apartment. She shows him the photo that Lucy took of the Death card, and Samdi says that he came there for the Dark One Dagger. Samdi takes out a deck of Tarot cards and lays out her past, present, and future. Her future is The Lovers, and Samdi says that only she can choose her path. He advises her to find a way to have it all and gives her the card.

At the station, Rogers checks the camera's security footage and confirms that Tilly was there at the time of Hilda's death. The city recently installed the camera because of a graffiti problem, and Henry figures that someone tried to frame Tilly. As she goes, she looks at Rogers for a moment and then thanks him.

The Past

Robin gives Alice a piece of cake and has her make a wish. Alice does so and says that she has a good feeling about it, and they take the road away together. before they go, Alice says goodbye to the tower and to her old life.

Now

As Regina looks at the card, Zelena comes in and Regina apologizes to her for hiding Samdi from her. She promises to tell the truth from now on, and explains that Samdi wants the Dagger. Regina admits that she has falling for Samdi even after finding that out, and Zelena promises not to judge her. Margot comes in and Zelena greets her daughter. The girl apologizes for being out of touch, and Regina tells her that a lot has changed since Margot left. Margot goes to clean up, and Zelena tells her sister that it's hard to lie to her about who they really are. The two of them share a toast.

Tilly goes back to her cargo container, and there's a knock at the door. It's Rogers, who came to return her backpack. He warns that it's not safe there, and invites her to stay with him in his spare room. Tilly accepts and they go home.
