Brussels 1941: " Lifeline", the evasion organisation run by a young Belgian woman known as Yvette, is successful in helping allied airmen shot down in Europe. London decides to send an RAF officer to co-ordinate activities, but the Gestapo are also sending Sturmbahnfuhrer Kessler

A group of evaders is caught and shot except for the nervous Sergeant Walker who falls into Kessler's hands. Rather than talk he attempts suicide, but he does not succeed

Curtis brings money from England for the evasion lines and becomes involved with a Jewish family ... as well as with Yvette.

An unpublished magazine article written by a repatriated evader comes into Brandt's hands. Its details are disguised but Brandt believes he can deduce the escape route across the Pyrenees.

An evader, found by a bargee, does not want to be repatriated. Comfortable Swiss internment is not Lifeline's purpose. The bargee is not all he seems ... nor is Curtis's offer of help.

More than ' Lifeline ' is put at risk by a young Belgian boy's discovery of a wounded airman.

A new type of aircraft, a 'Mosquito', is shot down with highly secret radar equipment on board. The navigator survives and is sheltered by an expatriate Englishman who quickly finds himself forced to decide where his loyalties lie

Curtis decides to check out a betrayal, but ' Lifeline' does not trust him.

In France, Yvette is caught in a police raid and imprisoned. In Brussels her uncle, Gaston, is picked up by the Gestapo. 'Lifeline ' is without their leader and faced with collapse.

An airman fails to convince ' Lifeline ' of his identity. In desperation he seizes Natalie as hostage.

The Germans succeed in infiltrating ' Lifeline ' with a Gestapo man posing as an RAF evader. Monique has fallen out with Albert and the infiltrator is attractive

Curtis persuades Yvette to smuggle a Belgian pro-Nazi minister to England as a propaganda coup for the Allies. But Kessler has other ideas.

A widowed English woman becomes involved with an evader and appeals to an old friend - Brandt - for help. But the airman is a German plant and ' Lifeline' is at risk.

Dom Pierre shelters an RAF evader in his monastery. The monks' loyalties are divided between patriotism and their faith.

Curtis is under suspicion. Kessler and Brandt trace him to the Cafe Candide.

The Gestapo put a security ring around Brussels to trap Curtis. He has one slim chance of escaping.

A senior army officer with detailed knowledge of a Middle East offensive is forced to bail out over occupied territory. ' Lifeline ' is ordered to prevent his interrogation at any cost.

' What do you mean they're different from the other evaders? ' ' They're Russians. They've just walked across Germany.'

' Lifeline ' is landed with a very special agent and a wounded Polish engineer ... from Peenemunde, where Hitler's secret weapon is very much a reality .. , and Kessler is hot on their trail.

The place is the French side of the border-Monique is shot. The authorities will contact her next-of-kin, but her papers are false.

' Suppose the Germans get there first ... will this man be able to cope?' ' I doubt it . . . he's blind.'

'... there are 19 evaders in our Brussels safe houses. Which one is the German ... ? We can't kill them all! '

Two aggressive Americans intend to do it their own way. They have hostages. One of them is Chief of Gestapo in Brussels ... and they don't know it.

Target Berlin ... the Big One. It means heavy losses ... and short shrift to any flying man shot down and picked up by Germans.

'I can drive a railway engine. Dressing-up as an old woman is just not on!'

The Feast of St Nicholas brings a new problem for Lifeline '. This time they have to buy their evader ... but the goods are damaged, and the sellers are children.

Max's allegiance to the Communist cause means another death within 'Lifeline', but Max has marked his own card.

' Lifeline ' pick up a wounded air ace .. but he is Luftwaffe not RAF, and London want him just as urgently.

' Vengeance is Mine, saith the Lord'. But FI-Lt de Beers has other ideas, ideas which endanger his own people and ' Lifeline

The Allied advance from the Invasion beaches is severing the evasion lines.

Albert is forced to rethink his strategy, vengeance is brewing for the death of Max ... and Brandt's replacement turns out to be a formidable opponent.

Lifeline's principal safe house is ' blown' ... the threat to ' Lifeline ' and to the Chantal sisters is real and immediate.

The Communist vengeance takes form... and the ' Candide' prepares for siege tactics.

Albert is imprisoned. Monique takes charge of the line and is confronted with a second-time evader ... an air-ace with a mind of his own.

A one-in-a-million chance brings appalling sickness that threatens the extermination of ' Lifeline's ' personnel.

London sends a tough and experienced officer to cope with the new situation. His first act is to make a deal with the Germans.

The V-weapons are the latest threat to the Allies. A convoy of ' rocket parts ' exposes Lifeline to sabotage action and Bradley makes his first mistake.

The time has come for Bradley to use his ' private army' of evaders to act positively against the V2 weapons.

The Allies enter Belgium ... fear of reprisals for their ' collaboration ' begins to haunt Lifeline ... and Albert, in prison, can do nothing about it.

The newly-released Albert is confronted by his old Communist enemies as a collaborator. Only the Allies can save him.... but they are still on the fringes of Brussels

The liberation brings terror for Lifeline. Monique disappears... so does Kessler.

A new life opens for Monique .. a new identity for Kessler

Spring 1945. The Germans find time for their own retributions. Monique and Madeleine have to make the most important decisions of their lives ... the Second World War is over.
