In this programme, we meet Pusia the much-loved guinea pig from Wick who has a catalogue of problems including stones in her bladder and cysts on her ovaries. She has to go through major surgery, and as vet Fiona Crowden operates, will it all go according to plan? This is an emotional story of care and dedication that pulls on the heartstrings. In Aberdeenshire, Woody the Alsatian dog has lost the ability to stand, so the team at Ardene House decides to give him a scan to find out more. A huge portable MRI scanner comes to Ardene, and the news is not good for Woody. Meanwhile, love is in the air at Blair Drummond Safari Park, as vet Colin Scott finds loved up tigers, and some newborns of all shapes and sizes, from a meerkat to a llama. And we meet an adorable nine week old lion cub called Karis, who needs her first vaccine.

In this programme, we meet Craig Devine a specialist cardiologist vet, as he visits Ardene House in Aberdeenshire. We see the care and compassion he feels for the animals he treats, as he examines a dog that turns out to have more wrong with him than could possibly have been anticipated. In Wick, vet Iain Maclean has some challenging calves to treat, one with a badly broken leg and another that has eaten too much barley. The decision he makes has significant consequences for the farmer. And at Blair Drummond Safari Park, vet Colin Scott tends to a beautiful Scandinavian owl with a broken wing. She is the pride and joy of her keeper Mark who has looked after her from birth, even taking her home to his own house to get used to people and pets. His care and concern is apparent, and he relies on Colin's skill to nurse Lucy back to health.

In this programme, we follow equine specialist vet Scott Pirie at the Dick Vet School. One horse gets a CT scan, which is a real practical challenge, and a late night emergency case comes in with suspected colic, which is a life threatening condition. At Ardene House, Marcel Kovalik is the visiting specialist dermatologist vet who has to go through a process of elimination before he can identify what causes a dog's allergies. We also see him teaching an owner to inject his dog himself as they are going on vacation. And in Wick, we see how sick a newborn can get when Shadow the Alsatian puppy comes in after being very unwell, but vet Iain Maclean has good news for his owners who fear the worst. But it is not such good news for Shana the farmer who owns 15 goats as Iain goes out to see Opal, who is one of the older ones in her herd. Stories of joy and stories of sadness as we meet all creatures great and small.

In this programme, vet Ann Wortley gets her power tools out at Ardene House when two other methods fail as she tackles an orthopedic problem in a spaniel. A slip of the wrist would be catastrophic. She explains how being a vet is a vocation rather than a job, and speaks about the challenges and rewards she gets from her work. In Wick, vet Iain Maclean has lots of cattle cases to attend to. A cow that has newly calved can't get up as her womb has come out after giving birth to her calf, but she gives Iain a bit more than he bargained for.

In this programme, we visit the Wildlife Rescue Centre near Alloa, where specialist vet Romain Pizzi visits once a week. On this visit he examines seals, a swan, an owl, a sparrowhawk and hedgehogs, amongst others - some make it and some don't, and Romain has to make these difficult decisions. At Ardene House, visiting equine specialist vet Graham Munroe examines a retired fell pony who is going blind in one eye. Hanna spent her working life working amongst royalty on the Balmoral Estate and it is only recently that she has begun to have trouble with her eye. Graham needs to decide whether she needs to have her eye removed or not. In Wick, vet Iain Maclean examines an alsatian with a large lump in its ear and needs to decide if surgery is going to be a solution. Once Brandy is on the theatre table, though, he discovers more than he expected.

In this programme, at the out of hours emergency vet service in Aberdeenshire, principal vet David MacKenzie has a busy night. Tyson the miniature dachshund has a heavyweight yelp, Mittens the kitten proves to be a slippery customer, and David helps to deliver some puppies with mixed results. At Edinburgh Zoo, specialist vet Romain Pizzi takes blood samples from some penguins to check to see if they are responding to treatment for a lung infection. He also has to take Mr Black, the rockhopper penguin, to surgery for a spot of cosmetic surgery before the mating season begins. And in Wick, a strong-smelling customer is a reluctant visitor to the surgery. The pygmy goat by its very nature has a strong smell and a stubborn character. Maybe the goat knows what's ahead of him as he is brought in for castration, but he certainly shows his willfulness in more ways than one.

In this programme, Marty the male adult tiger at Highland Wildlife Park has toothache and needs treatment. So, how do you take 187 kilos of wild animal and give it root canal treatment? Well, local vet Jane Harley has to call in reinforcements to get the job done. Specialist dental vet Norman Johnson from North Berwick has to attend and so does specialist exotic animal vet Simon Girling from Edinburgh Zoo. Back near Aberdeen, vet David MacKenzie is on A&E duty at VetsNow and has a beautiful Vizsla dog called Jack to treat - he has been hit by a car and has a series of injuries. Meanwhile in Wick, vet Iain MacLean visits a pig with a sore elbow. Darcy is grumbling in his sty as he is examined by Iain, but Darcy's sister Holly has very different accommodation. She sleeps in the living room, which may not sound unusual until you realize she is now the size of a three seater sofa!

In the final programme, vet Fiona Crowden gets called out to a cattle farm in Wick where a cow carrying a calf has fallen down and can't get up. She needs to identify if the cow was weakened, causing her to fall down, or whether she has slipped and fallen, severely damaging her muscles. A blood test will reveal if she has and to what level. The farmer hopes she will recover, but will his efforts be in vain? At Ardene House, equine specialist vet Graham Munroe has the tricky task of performing keyhole surgery on a horse to repair a damaged tendon in its leg. Getting the horse prepped and sedated before it is hoisted by crane into surgery is no mean feat. And back in Wick, a very sickly new calf has been brought in to the surgery and Fiona has to treat it quickly if she is to save it. The calf goes downhill rapidly and then recovers before relapsing again. Will it make it through or not?

In this programme, we follow equine vet Graham Hunter at Ardene House near Aberdeen as he carries out an endoscopy on one horse and removes a tooth from another - a task that takes a few hours and a lot of patience. At Highland Wildlife Park, vet Jane Harley rasps a kiang horse's teeth and trims a markhor's feet. She also wants to take some blood samples from a female bison, but it's quite a challenge for the team as the herd roams freely round the reserve, and they need to guard from the protective and fearsome bull. Meanwhile, at Vets Now near Aberdeen, vet David Mackenzie has to deal with a kitten with its head completely stuck in a tin can - a first in all his years of practice!

In this programme, two young vets in Wick, Kiri Harvey and Pete Cameron are kept busy with lambing and calving, and have some difficult decisions to make. A sheep heavy with triplets comes in and it's a race against time to see if the lambs can be born alive. At Ardene House near Aberdeen, visiting vet Fergus Coutts is a pain specialist who uses acupuncture and hydrotherapy to treat a German Shepherd dog. And at Vets Now, a cat with an abscess on his head is admitted as an emergency case for vet David Mackenzie to treat.

In this programme, the Wildlife Rescue Centre near Alloa is exceptionally busy in spring, when many newborns are orphaned or injured, and the dedicated staff often take them home to feed them through the night. Vet Romain Pizzi checks out a day-old rabbit with a broken leg, a fox cub that is not eating and an orphaned red squirrel that is being hand-fed. At Ardene House near Aberdeen, vet Ann Wortley gets out her power tools as she operates on a dog's knee to cure his lameness. And in Wick, vet Kiri Harvey is checking out Jock, a very cute 9-week-old kitten that has a suspected broken leg.

In this programme, Walker the polar bear at Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie gets a visit from the dentist. A team of specialist vets gathers to join local vet Jane Harley and create a temporary operating theatre in Walker's enclosure so that they can carry out their procedures. It's a race against time to get the work done. At Albavet in Dunfermline, eye specialist vet Vikki Halliday performs delicate surgery on a cat's eye, and at Dick Vet School at Edinburgh University, the exotics department has a varied assortment of animals to treat.

In this programme, orthopedic specialist vet Richard Coe is at the Vets Now hospital in Glasgow operating on a young spaniel who has come in with a broken leg. Richard performs surgery to insert a metal plate which binds the two parts of the bone together. At Blair Drummond Safari Park, we follow vet Colin Scott doing his rounds as he checks on the animals, from chimpanzees to penguins and the macaque monkeys, and he finishes his day at the birds of prey show. Meanwhile, in Vatersay, crofters are preparing their cattle for the sales with help from vet David Buckland, who has come across from Barra for the day.

In this programme we meet vet Pamela Martin, who is a cancer specialist at the Vets Now hospital in Glasgow, where a dog has come in with a tumour on his foot. Pamela calls on Dr Liz Welsh, a soft tissue specialist at the hospital, to carry out the surgery. In Wick, vet Iain Maclean does dental work on a sheepdog, but this patient is very familiar to him - it's his own dog! We meet David Mackenzie in the out-of-hours service and also in practice in Dunfermline, where he is a cardiology specialist. While we are there we meet vet Graham Dodds who, as well as working in general practice, also has an unusual specialism - hens!

In this programme, it's a big day for the crofters in Borve in the Isle of Barra as they have gathered together for a visit from vet David Buckland, who has travelled from Uist to prepare their cattle for the sales in Lochboisdale in a few weeks time. At Dick Vet School in Edinburgh, dermatology vet specialist Tim Nuttall uses cutting-edge laser surgery to remove tumours from a dog's mouth. And during the out-of-hours emergency service near Aberdeen, vet David Mackenzie sees a dog that has come in with a sore foot. His owners fear that he stood on broken glass.

In this programme, Saskia is a seriously ill cat who needs a blood transfusion. Vets David Mackenzie and Scott Kilpatrick need to see if her brother or sister are suitable donors, and it's a race against time as Saskia's condition deteriorates. At the Highland Wildlife Park, vet Jane Harley has to trim the markhors' hooves, but catching them is no easy task. The keepers try a new tactic this time, but will it work? And in Caithness, Kay keeps sheep and pigs as pets, but today it is Holly the pig who needs treatment from vet Kiri Harvey. Unlike the other pets Holly lives in Kay's house, and she is very grumpy when Kiri appears.

Today they have two ducks and a tortoise to examine, but David never knows what's ahead. In Caithness, vet Iain Maclean spends the day visiting farms and treats two cows that are in difficulty. And at Vets Now out-of-hours service near Aberdeen, vet David Mackenzie performs a series of blood tests on a poorly cat to try to find out what is wrong.

He has to be exceptionally careful with a wild animal as dangerous as this. And, at Ardene House near Aberdeen, vet Alison Cheshire from Lewis has delicate surgery to perform on a bulldog's eye.

In this programme, vet David Mackenzie is treating a seven year old retriever at Vets Now emergency service near Aberdeen. Biggles' red blood cell count has dropped to dangerous levels and they can't work out why. Meanwhile, vet Jane Harley is at Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie to carry out some tests on a group of tahrs that are moving to a new home in the Middle East. The herd must be separated, but one of the tahrs due to go to Dubai has decided he would rather stay at home! And in Caithness, it's lambing season and vet Pete Cameron is kept busy with a steady stream of animals coming in to the surgery. He's faced with a difficult challenge when a sheep arrives with a prolapsed womb. Will he be able to save the sheep and the twin lambs she is carrying?

In this programme, vet Kay Falconer has been called out to see cattle at both ends of the Long Island. Crofter Angus MacKay from Scaristavore in Harris has bought new Aberdeen Angus stock that need testing, while crofter and journalist Murray Macleod from Ness in Lewis wants to find out if his cattle are in calf. At Blair Drummond Safari Park, vet Colin Scott is doing his rounds and has a mix of animals to tend to, from tigers and sea lions to a giraffe. And a very special dog has returned to Aberdeen Veterinary Referral. Two-year-old wirehaired pointer Dillon is a quadruple amputee having lost all four legs in terrible conditions overseas. Vet Scott Rigg has arranged for special prosthetic legs to be made especially for him and Dillon is going to try them out for the first time.

In this programme, Wick vet Ian Miller has to give a pedicure to Mannie the bull before the mating season begins, but how do you handle a bull that weighs over a tonne? Fortunately, Ian has just the tools to help him - a hydraulic crate on a trailer and an electric grinder. At the Vets Now emergency service near Aberdeen, Brodie the Cockapoo has eaten something he shouldn't, but they don't know what. Vet David Mackenzie takes an X-ray and finds something that puts Brodie's life in danger. And, a goose has been admitted to the Wildlife Rescue Centre with breathing problems. Vet Romain Pizzi has to make a tiny hole in its chest so that he can insert a camera on the end of an endoscope to find out the cause, leaving him with a difficult decision to make.

In this programme, one of the zebras at Blair Drummond Safari Park has to be knocked out as he has a sore foot. The drug used in the dart gun would kill a human being, so vet Colin Scott has to be very careful when he is preparing the dart and has an antidote ready in case anything goes wrong. In Wick, vet Kiri Harvey tends to a cat that has broken his leg in a road accident. An x-ray shows that she has no choice but to amputate it because of where the break has occurred, but how will Tiao cope with only three legs? And vet Austen Marr visits a stud farm near Banff where they breed horses that have gone on to be successful at World Cup level. The window for a horse becoming pregnant is very short, so the mares are regularly checked to see if they are in foal.

In this programme, it's a busy time at the wildlife rescue centre for abandoned and injured seal pups and also for hedghogs, with 130 prickly patients. Vet Romain Pizzi is kept busy on his weekly visit and he also x-rays a badger that has been hit by a car. At Highland Wildlife Park, Voldemort the bull yak heads off to his new home at Whipsnade Zoo where he meets some lady yaks. Weighing over 600kg, vet Jane Harley and the team of keepers have their hands full loading him onto a trailer. And at the Vets Now emergency out-of-hours service near Aberdeen, vet David Mackenzie tends to a distressed cat and a dog that has leapt off a bridge by accident.

In this programme, vet Scott Rigg at AVR in Aberdeenshire uses his CT scanner to identify Louie the cat's injuries after a road accident, and finds out he needs to operate to reconstruct his broken jaw. At Highland Wildlife Park, vet Jane Harley and the team of keepers have their hands full as they try to catch wildcat kittens and markors. Two young male markhors need to be separated from the females now and moved to another enclosure to join the big boys, but catching them is another matter. And Romain Pizzi is busy at the Wildlife Rescue Centre with a lame goose to x-ray and a buzzard that was found injured on a barbed wire fence. He needs to be sure they will recover sufficiently to survive in the wild.

In this programme, Romain Pizzi is at Five Sisters Zoo in West Lothian to perform keyhole surgery on a coati (one of the raccoon family), but the biggest challenge is catching it. In Aberdeen, it's not only dogs that come in to see vet chiropractor Emma-Louise Emerson. Alfie the rabbit has lost his ability to hop. Can Emma bounce him back to health? And at AVR in Aberdeenshire, vet Scott Rigg is operating on Tammy the rottweiler. He fits a titanium plate in her leg before inserting a wedge to push the bone back into place.

In this programme, Romain Pizzi is at the Wildlife Rescue Centre treating a kestrel with a broken wing following a road accident. Two waxwings from Scandinavia are also at the centre recovering, and Romain tests them to see if they are able to fly again. At Blair Drummond Safari Park, Colin Scott meets Bonnie the rhino for the first time. Bonnie was born two weeks ago and is a real livewire. He also checks in on the four lion cubs, who are now three months old. In Stornoway, vet Hector Lowe and his wife vet nurse Catherine are operating on Bentley the labrador's leg, assisted by recently graduated vet Joanna, who is seeing this operation for the first time.

The sheep are in difficulty and Joanna battles to save the sheep and lambs - but which of them will make it? At AVR in Aberdeenshire, vet Scott Rigg is busy with several dogs. A huge Bernese mountain dog needs surgery to cure his lameness, a miniature daschund has a check-up after spinal surgery and a collie needs life-saving surgery on his airways.

In this programme, Stornoway-based vet Hector Low is using needles with a difference on a pug. Instead of an injection, this dog is getting acupuncture treatment. In Angus, the vets from Forfar are kept busy with horses, from two Clydesdales to a miniature Shetland pony, but it is the little one that gives them the biggest problem. And, at the Wildlife Rescue Centre, vet Romain Pizzi has his hands full with newborn hedgehogs and a tiny woodmouse.

In this programme, Professor Ian Ramsey at the Small Animal Hospital at Glasgow Vet School is treating a cat with a thyroid problem using radioiodine. Because it is radioactive, the cat has to spend the following fortnight in an isolation ward. At the Wildlife Rescue Centre, vet Romain Pizzi is treating a buzzard and a seal. And, in Forfar, vet Fiona Crowden is kept busy with a cow that has become entangled in wire, and she visits a dog who has a special set of glasses called 'doggles'!

In this programme, Romain Pizzi is treating a wide variety of animals at Five Sisters Zoo near Livingston including a wildcat, a monkey and a fox. With nearly 200 different species at the zoo, he's always kept busy during his monthly visits. In Aberdeenshire, Graham Hunter performs dramatic looking spinal surgery on a horse while she is standing. Meanwhile, in Stornoway, Kay Falconer treats a turkey with breathing difficulties and an uninvited robin makes an appearance. It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

At Highland Wildlife Park, vet Jane Harley is kept on her toes with the lively markhors as they get their regular hoof trim, and she observes horse trainer Bonnie Mealand as she works with the wild Przewalski horses. And in Stornoway, vet Micheal Brannigan has been called to a cow that needs urgent treatment in Harris, but he has to overcome the challenge of travelling by road over a snowy Clisham - the highest mountain in the Western Isles.

At Five Sister's Zoo, vet Romain Pizzi wants to anaesthetise Dali, a two-metre long Crocodile Monitor, so that he can examine its mouth. It takes a team of six to handle the lizard. Sixteen-year-old Spike has travelled 430 miles from Kent to The Equine Hospital at Glasgow Vet School for surgery with Derek. In Forfar, Fiona Crowden is treating a cow that's rapidly lost weight and is running a temperature. She gives her a fast dose of fluids directly into her stomach. At Five Sisters Zoo, the keepers have the challenge of catching Mo the gibbon so that Romain Pizzi can anaesthetise her. He wants to carry out some blood tests to find out why she's not been well.

Some pull through, but it's not good news for the others. At the Wildlife Rescue Centre, Romain Pizzi is kept busy with young sea-birds that have been brought in in distress, and the keeper thinks a swan has been attacked by a dog and needs an x-ray to make sure there are no broken bones. And, in Benbecula eight-month old dog Fraya's owner Stewart has an unexpected visit to see vet Ealasaid Dick while he's on his holidays in the Western Isles.

The species became extinct in the wild in the 1920s and, as part of their conservation project, they are going to be reintroduced to a new site in the wild in northern Spain. But the process is risky. At Glasgow Vet School, George Peplinski, one of the country's leading eye surgeons, carries out delicate surgery on a dog that involves creating an eyelid from its lip. And in Benbecula, Ealasaid Dick faces the challenge of trying to take a sample from a 100kg ram.
