Famed chef Gordon Ramsay conducted a nationwide search for the best home cooks in America, and through a series of exciting elimination rounds, will turn one of them into a culinary master. Joining Ramsay on the judging panel are restaurateur and wine maker Joe Bastianich, owner of some of the most-celebrated Italian restaurants across the country; and Graham Elliot, the youngest four-star chef in the U.S. and mastermind behind Chicago's first "bistronomic" restaurant. In the series premiere episode, home cooks from all over the country present their signature dishes to the three judges in the hopes of being awarded the coveted MASTERCHEF apron, which guarantees them a spot in the next round of competition.

The Top 14 contestants enter the MASTERCHEF kitchen for the very first time and begin on a journey that will change their lives. Judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot put the contestants through a series of challenges throughout each episode and at the end of them some contestants are sent home while the rest are left to move on in the competition. During the team challenge, the contestants spend the day feeding hundreds of Marines at Camp Pendleton. The team who wins the challenge is safe from elimination while the losers return to the MASTERCHEF kitchen to face a pressure test.

The home cooks are challenged to make a single cupcake, and while that sounds like a simple task, they quickly learn that it's not that easy. Later, special guest Chef Cat Cora and the contestants step out of the kitchen for the team challenge: cooking for truckers at a truck stop. The losers return to face the pressure test, where they must name as many ingredients they can from a table of fresh farmers-market finds.

After conducting a nationwide search, 100 of the best amateur cooks in America - including a police officer, an oil rig engineer, an interior designer, a forklift operator, a professional poker player, a classical pianist and a tattoo shop owner - were flown to Los Angeles in the hopes of becoming the next MASTERCHEF and walking away with the life-changing grand prize. The hopefuls will prepare their signature dishes and present them to judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot. The amateur cooks will be put through the paces, and only the most deserving among them will win the coveted white apron and move on to the next round of the competition.

Celebrity chef Paula Deen joins the MASTERCHEF judging panel and selects the mystery box ingredients, which include traditional Southern staples and a comforting surprise - a family photo and a letter from home. The amateur cook who prepares the most delicious Southern-inspired dish will earn a priceless reward. Later, the winner of the previous challenge will couple the remaining six contestants who will work in pairs to cook a Japanese dish. The Top Six finalists are in for a big surprise when the eight previously eliminated contestants return to the MASTERCHEF kitchen to compete for a chance to earn a spot back in the competition. After the contestants are whittled down, only two amateur cooks will compete head to head for a chance to win back their aprons and continue on the journey to become the next MASTERCHEF.

The remaining six home cooks compete in a high-pressure team challenge at Hatfield's, one of the most talked about restaurants in Hollywood. The contestants will split into two teams and replicate the award-winning restaurant's signature dishes. The team that executes a fine dining experience which impresses the judges, restaurant owners and hungry diners will win the challenge, while the losing team will be sent into the dreaded pressure test. The judges continue to winnow down the competition in the final round of auditions, but the stakes are raised as the remaining hopefuls are put to the ultimate test in an intense lamb challenge. Then, the Top 19 contestants compete in their first mystery box challenge of the season and must create an exceptional dish using the most basic mystery box ingredients. Later, the contestants participate in the season's first emotional elimination round.

The remaining 16 home cooks compete in a team challenge and cook a hearty and balanced steak meal for 101 firefighters. The losing team will face a pressure test and cook their best eggs benedict dish. Later, the bottom four contestants from the previous challenge will try their luck in Las Vegas for the first time in MASTERCHEF history. The four home cooks will split into two teams to prepare their most impressive burger dish at Gordon Ramsay BurGR at Planet Hollywood. The losing team will go head to head in a cook-off that will send one contestant home for good.

The judges get some very special help from their sons, who stop by the MASTERCHEF kitchen to judge the next mystery box challenge. Then, the contestants face the daunting task of recreating one of the greatest dishes the judges ever tasted. Later, in a field challenge, the remaining five home cooks visit a ranch where they will each prepare one Southern-inspired dish as part of a special summer luncheon for local charity volunteers. After the first part of the competition, two home cooks will advance to the finals and the Top Four, while the bottom three contestants will face a pressure test that will end the competition for one home cook.

It's the ultimate culinary war when the remaining 20 home cooks compete in the biggest field challenge in MASTERCHEF history: feeding an army of 500 servicemen and women on a desert army base. In their first team challenge, the contestants will split into two teams - the red team and the blue team - to create a hearty meal including one protein and two side dishes. Tempers flare as both teams struggle with consistency, and every dish counts as the troops will vote for their favorite dish and determine the winning team. Later, the losing team will face an intense pressure test featuring the all-American classic, blueberry pie. Find out whose dessert will prove to be a victory and who will be sent home.

In the next challenge, with a little help from a few other home cooks, the remaining three contestants will create dishes for 30 restaurant guests who serve an important role in the judges' culinary world. The home cook with the most number of votes will move on in the competition, while the remaining two home cooks will face the next pressure test, during which they must complete three classic MASTERCHEF dishes. The home cook with the best dishes will move on to the finals.

The Finale

In the final challenge in the MASTERCHEF kitchen, the Top Two home cooks will have one last chance to prove to the judges that they deserve the MASTERCHEF title by creating a three-course meal. After evaluating the final dishes, the judges will reveal America's next MASTERCHEF, and the deserving home cook will walk away with a MASTERCHEF trophy, a book deal and the $250,000 grand prize.

The winner of the Mystery Box Challenge is rewarded with a significant decision going into the season's first elimination challenge, during which they will have to replicate one of Chef Ramsay's signature dishes in less than 60 minutes.

In their first MASTERCHEF field challenge, the Top 18 home cooks are divided in to two teams where they will have to prepare appetizers and entrees for a very special guest and member of the MASTERCHEF family, season 6 contestant Nick Nappi on his wedding day! Not only will they feel the pressure from Gordon Ramsay, Christina Tosi and a former contestant but also Nick's bride and 72 hungry wedding guests. The winning team will earn a significant advantage in the next elimination challenge.

This week, the remaining 16 home cooks get a very special treat leading into the next challenge, as Chef Ramsay demonstrates how to properly deconstruct a lobster. They will then each have 25 minutes to kill, poach and shell a lobster, just as they learned from the master, and the winner will have the advantage of choosing which team he or she will join for the next field challenge. For the second part of the challenge, Chef Ramsay demonstrates how to make lobster tortellini in a seafood broth. The contestants have 45 minutes to recreate Ramsay's dish.

Vets, Jets and Home Cooks

The remaining 15 home cooks will separate into two teams for the second major field challenge of the competition, cooking for 101 hungry veterans! The two teams will have 75 minutes to prep, and one hour to serve a dish consisting of a steak, two sides and a sauce. After a dramatic day out in the field, the veterans will have the power to vote for their favorite dish.
