Wagon Train

Wagon Train followed the trials and tribulations of pioneering families as they set out from the East to carve out a new life in the West soon after the American Civil War. For some of the travellers it was a happy ending, but not for all, which only heightened the drama along the way.

The story opens in a saloon where O’Malley, a card shark and gambler is dealing cards. Wagon Train scout Flint McCullough comes in for a drink and learns from the bartender who O’Malley is. Romero, bad guy and leader of a gang is about to be hanged because he stole some money. Romero’s gang rides into town and rescues him from being hanged. Then O’Malley leaves town in a hurry because he’s running from Romero who he stole the money from. He takes his ”children,” a girl and boy, with him before he flees. His sister begs him not to take the children and scolds him for donning clothing disguising himself as a preacher. In his flight he discovers the wagon train and is interviewed by Major Adams & Charlie before being allowed to join the train. Soon after, the disguised gambler is asked to hold a service for the wagon train. Scout McCullough returns to the train and identifies O’Malley, who is then placed under guard on the train. Martha, a young woman traveling on the train with her father asks O’Malley if she can watch his children. He then explains they are not his children, but the children of a man that was shot & had no where to go. O’Malley dupes Charlie, his guard, into removing his restraints to play cards, then escapes custody. He leaves the wagon train to save them from being attacked from Romero’s gang who is hunting for O’Malley to get the money. The children leave the wagon train in search of their father. Romero captures their father, and the children find Romero with their father and they make a deal with Romero to give back the money that O’Malley had taken from him, then Romero turns O’Malley loose because he felt sorry for the children. O’Malley and the children go back to the wagon train, where they join up with Martha and her father where they are last seen in a wagon, with no money, but headed for California as one big happy family.
