Actor Names in Summaries

Gadfly posted 5 years ago

As a note, don't forget that actor names should never be in summaries. Per the data policies:

"The summary should not contain any information that's already available elsewhere on the show page. For example, mentioning a character name as part of the summary is OK, but listing the actor alongside each character is not."

https://www.tvmaze.com/faq/13/shows

Ditto for creators, producers, and pretty much anything that would be considered "metadata". Basically, summaries should just summarize the plot of the show.

Thanks!

No problem, thanks again! If you look at the new episode summaries that the importer brings in, it'll give you a good idea of what to do. The press summaries often have actor names in them, but either the importer removes them or the staff member(s) remove them manually.

Ummm, again, you need to not include actor names in show summaries.

For example:

https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/40027/bold-venture

Bernie Gozier is an actor. Dane Clark is an actor. Joan Marshall is an actress.

Just because a summary is taken from an official source does not make it a TVMaze summary. TVmaze has certain restrictions and requirements. Please see the link above for more detail.

I've gone ahead and trimmed the summary to TVMaze-acceptable. If necessary, you can see the original via the edit log.

Thanks!

There's more to it than that: nothing other than a summary of the show goes in the show summary. Again, read the section I linked to, to get the full scoop.

Anything else shouldn't be put there no matter how "official" it is. If the site designers wanted something else there, they'd have written the policies so it could be there.

Hope that helps. Thanks!
