The red-light district has changed radically in Mick's absence: instead of prostitutes, lifelike sex dolls now dominate the scene. When the operator Renate Kowalski is murdered, Mick and Andreas investigate in the midst of a world that appears modernized but harbors old problems: jealousy, shame, and blackmail.
