Gilberto José Pires de Assis Brasil, known as Giba Assis Brasil is a Brazilian professor, director, screenwriter and editor of cinema and television. He graduated in Journalism from the Faculty of Communication at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in 1980. He was one of the founders of Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre, in 1987. He directed, co-directed or was assistant director in several films, but works mainly in editing. Assis Brasil teaches scriptwriting in the Communication course at UFRGS and in the Audiovisual Realization course at the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos (Unisinos). Since 2004, he has been a member of the Superior Council of Brazilian Cinema.
