I've invested seven seasons in The Oval, and Episode 22 did not feel like a proper conclusion. There were simply too many major storylines left unresolved. What happens after the cartel shoots up Richard and Nancy's house while pursuing Sharon and the money? What happens to Priscilla, Simone and the Secret Service agents after Jason's bomb supposedly explodes at Sam and Priscilla's house? We hear the explosion, but we don't even see the house explode or learn who survives. Sam hears about it from Alonzo, runs off, and that's it.
The storyline about exposing Hunter and Victoria's cover-ups also never receives the full payoff I expected. Bobby and Lilly disappear under new identities, Max never gets a satisfying resolution to everything involving Bobby and Agent Cross, and major secrets involving Eli are left hanging.
Even Jason's ending disappointed me. After seven seasons of watching him murder people and escape consequences, Victoria finally gets her hands on him, injects him with something, he screams and the scene ends. After everything this character has done, I wanted an unmistakable conclusion to his story.
A season finale can end on cliffhangers because another season is coming. A series finale should provide closure. With this many unresolved storylines, a roughly 45-minute finale wasn't enough. This should have been an extended finale that gave these characters and the viewers who invested seven seasons in them a real ending. I love The Oval, which is exactly why this ending was so disappointing.
Not sure how to add the show description here, but I found this one somewhere:
"Drunk with the power, Hunter goes on a warpath from which no one is spared and causes terrible damage in his wake; when Barry is in trouble, Richard and Sharon team up to try and save him from dire circumstances at their risk of their lives."
