Recent discussions
Decent show, pretty slow burn, and nearly full hour episodes add to the feeling. I suspect the low imdb ratings (sub 6 when I last checked) didn't make past the first episode because of that aspect. It's In the vein of Small Irish Town shows, sans podcasters, where the town's secrets are exposed as the investigation progresses, (and here's some The Killing - AMC - in there too, for sure; in the casting alone, it's obvious), but Aussie - style. It's not the first of it's type from there. There have been at least half a dozen others quite like this in the past, of the full gamut of quality. This is high-middle quality (as opposed to mid-high) of what I've taken the time to watch.
Michael Dorman plays expressive deadpan again, but I've only seen him in 2 things that I remember, so I'm not sure if that's just "him." The show's direction does seem influenced by Patriot, but more by The Killing. this is something else entirely from former, and has very little humor. D & T doesn't hold a candle to either show, but it's an oddball, long-form, but short season, murder investigation show that's worth a watch. I most likely would have skipped it if it were set in the British Isles area, and/or didn't have Dorman as a lead. With both, it's not great TV, I probably wouldn't watch it again. season 2 probably won't happen... but I don't feel like I wasted those 6 hours. It was creatively written and shot, and there was some good acting involved.
