1984. Andrei Mazurov, a reliable worker in the Committee of Youth Organizations who had served in Afghanistan and believed in the party's ideals, is sent to a seminar in Italy. In Verona, he meets his true and only love. His Juliet turns out to be a Jewish girl, Leah, who has come with her father to a congress of rabbis. Fate gives them a few fleeting encounters in the most romantic city in the world, and then each must return home — Leah to Israel, Andrei to the USSR. In those days, their states were at odds; there weren't even diplomatic relations between them. The lovers make desperate attempts to find each other, but their parents, the "iron curtain," and political and cultural prejudices seem to keep them apart forever. But it's no coincidence that their love was born under the skies of Verona — after going through the most difficult trials, they meet again years later...
