Nina is a middle aged woman living in Athens in the late 1930s, while Hecuba is an older woman who moves from Thessaloniki to Athens with her adult children. From their first meeting at Nina's home, the two women form a close friendship.
As they share memories and stories from their lives, their personal experiences bring to life the struggles, passions and hardships of ordinary people in modern Greece, against the backdrop of a country undergoing profound social and historical change.
