Thomas, Francis and James journey from futuristic Singapore to the Malaysian highlands to investigate an important consumer question: for less than £5,000, is it possible to buy a sports car that's exciting to drive but also won't break down the whole time?

Following a pub chat with James May, the team head stateside to convince Americans of the brilliance of tiny Japanese Kei cars. And what better way for Thomas, James and Francis to win hearts and minds… than by sneaking off-road around Colorado before tackling the USA's most terrifying hillclimb: the 4,300-metre monster that is Pikes Peak?

The hosts are on a mission to find out the strongest car ever made. After a series of very destructive tests they enlist the help of Richard Hammond to help them crown the winner.
