Ratings Roundup Week of March 12, 2017

Nielsen had a tough week as a power outage delayed ratings information until Wednesday night. NCAA Basketball was the big news last week as the college tourney won both Friday and Saturday night.

CBS saw big returns on the NCAA Basketball Tournament this week. Games shown on The Eye, met or exceeded the rating of normally scheduled programming. Any hopes non-basketball fans had of seeing the tourney move completely to cable should think again. No other real surprises for CBS this week. Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders held at the same numbers as last week. Madam Secretary could see another season if for no other reason to up its episode count for syndication deals.

This is Us concluded its season for NBC on a high note, winning the week for the Peacock Network by little less than a point ahead of second place, The Voice. NBC also announced Shades of Blue was renewed after only two episodes aired, so fans can breathe easy and enjoy the rest of the season knowing more will come. Fans of Trial & Error, however may not be so lucky. It shed almost two thirds of its lead-in audience for its premier. Chicago Justice and Taken have settled nicely and both should see renewals in the coming weeks.

ABC had one new show premiere this week, American Crime opened its third season with a painfully low 0.5. Time After Time also fell from its premier week and things do not look good for a second season of the time-travel show. The Bachelor closed out its season as the highest rated show for the network last week, though those numbers were also down compared to last year.

TheCW premiered The Originals last week to very low numbers and things do not look good for the spin-off. The network does not have a lot of room on its schedule and new shows will need a slot come the fall. WIll this be the last season for the vampires on CW?

Renewal announcements should start rolling in in the next few weeks. Fans will know once and for all by early May at the latest if their favorites are coming back for another year or if that all-in-one DVD set will be on sale soon. What shows are you waiting for news on? Are your favorites a sure thing?
