Ratings Roundup Week of October 21, 2018

NBC had one premiere last week, Midnight, Texas. It was a good news/bad news situation for fans of the series, however. The good news: the show is one of the few to go from a summer schedule to the fall schedule. The bad news? The numbers were for a summer series. Even with Friday forgiveness, the show did not open well. Fans should hope it gets shifted back to the summer and not outright canceled. For the rest of the Peacock Networks rookies, Manifest and New Amsterdam are still doing well. Expect I Feel Bad to be quietly shuttled off before too much longer.

ABC had a fairly workman like week. The Connors slipped seven tenths and almost three million viewers from its premiere, no real surprise to anyone. It was still the top rated program for the network last week. The network also reran It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and it may have been another nail in the coffin for Fresh Off The Boat as the the animated classic pulled a three tenths better rating and a million more viewers. Splitting Up Together slipped two tenths from its premiere, and things are not looking good for the comedy series. The Rookie slipped two tenths from it's premiere, it did receive an additional three episode order, but it needs to come up in the ratings if fans want a second season. The Kids Are Alright also slipped a bit, but is fine for now.

CBS had a pretty standard week as well. NCIS Los Angeles was up a tenth, God Friended Me bumped two tenths. Fans of SWAT might want to start worrying, though. The numbers have been pretty low over the last few weeks, and while it has been consistent, it's well below the network average at the moment. Criminal Minds may be on its last legs as well. MacGyver is all but guaranteed a renewal as its in season three now.

FOX feasted on sports coverage last week. Looking at the numbers it's easy to see why the network wanted the Dodgers to keep winning. 9-1-1 was the highest rated scripted program last week. The Resident was steady and while Rel gained a tenth, it won't be enough to save the show.

The CW had one of its most consistent weeks in a long time. With the exception of the ratings cellar dwellers, Dynasty and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the network had a pretty good week. Two shows had premieres last week. Legacies, the latest spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, opened low, but if it holds its audience, should be fine. Legends of Tomorrow also opened low, but probably isn't in any danger.

Final Season

We have a few more weeks with November sweeps before the holiday schedules start for the networks. How are your favorite shows doing so far?

Yeah, the beating of heads with the morality stick is getting to be a huge turn off for me, especially this season with Supergirl. Black Lighting I can take or leave so far.

I was almost tempted to give The Rookie a shot, but I didn't want to start it, possibly like it, have the ratings be so-so and then have ABC cancel it.

And as a Peanuts fan, you can't go wrong with It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown - even though I've seen it hundreds of times growing up until now. :)

Legends is the only Arrowverse show I still watch because it's fun! Arrow and Flash lost the fun in their bid to be serious, and Supergirl never appealed ever before I found out the production liked to beat their viewers over the head with the morality stick. Black Lightning was more family drama than superhero adventure, so that was a pass as well.

Tried The Rookie, cuz Nathan Fillion. Not sure about that one yet.

I haven't had to a chance to watch Midnight, Texas yet on my DVR, but I will say if it gets cancelled after its episodes air, it wouldn't be surprising. The book series it's based on only had 3 installments in it and the first season pretty much covered the first and the third books in it. Sounds like this season might be covering the second book in the series. I'm hoping I'll enjoy this season when I watch it. I loved watching the premiere of Legends of Tomorrow - it's always good for a laugh. And with Big Bang Theory, I was pleasantly surprised that their halloween episode was funny from start to finish - something I feel hasn't happened a lot the past few seasons.
