Spoilers: Game of Thrones...

136752.jpgit has returned and graced us with its presence. Thank the old gods and the new for it's swift return. For those of you, who have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm afraid I can't help you. Game of Thrones returned with it's 6th season and I'm afraid there is too much for me to cover. Instead, go watch it! Catch up and then read this review because I'm about to spoil so much of what has occurred over last few seasons. Readers beware! Look no further unless you are caught up!

So this past Sunday night GoT returned with the episode titled The Red Woman and it was, overall, excellent, in my opinion. There were just a few scenes that left me wondering, but for the most part I enjoyed it and I'm interested to see where this show continues. To be honest, I will probably watch this show until it's very end and if it takes a hard right turn that I don't agree with, well I guess I'll just lament it here. But first, the things I liked about this episode.

The women were pretty powerful throughout. Brienne came charging in, no questions asked, and butchered I would say 5 people in the name of the Starks. She had no qualms about slicing throats and murdering men who really had no defense. And I loved it. These soldiers were, of course, part of the Bolton household so I really have no problem with their death. It was also nice to witness Sansa able to do something other then biding her time until she tortured again. Seriously, this better be her season or else I'm going to be greatly disappointed in the writers. In a similar vein, the Sand Snakes also kicked some ass. They were on screen for all of 3 minutes before they too started murdering people left and right and it was a nice change of character for them, compared to the prior season at least. I've read the books and have decried their characters in other reviews of this show, so it was nice to see them portrayed as great as they were described in the books. Dornish are supposed to be equal parts sexy and dangerous and in the previous seasons, they were just sexy. Which is nice, but didn't add anything to the overall show. Seriously, watch the scene in which one Sand Snake shows herself to Bron for what would be no purpose at all. It was incredibly disappointing. And you can't forget Arya. Yes, even though she's blind and getting beaten with a stick, I know she will come back and kick some unsuspecting ass. It's going to be good. Sadly Margaret is still in jail and Cersei is struggling with the loss of her child, but I like the direction of the female characters, so far.

All in all, it was nice to see these characters really be able to take charge of their situation and fight. I'm truly interested to see how they proceed going further.

I also liked the humor that seemed to permeate throughout this episode. The scene involving the Sand Snakes spearing their cousin, presumably, in the head had a funny reaction to it, which didn't seem out of place. There was also a funny scene when Daenerys is captured by Khal Moro and a funny exchange occurs between him and his two men. The humor didn't seem out of place and the episode seemed to benefit from it. Davos also had a funny exchange when he was bartering for his release and insisting that he receive mutton because he's a terrible hunter. These exchanges all seemed indicative of their characters and were a nice break from the darkness of this show.

What I did not like, was only one tiny aspect of this episode.

I was very unimpressed by the use of Vaes Dothrak as a resting place for the former Khaleesis. After conducting some research, I did find that this existed in the book as well, it's been awhile since I've read them, but that really doesn't change how I feel about this because it doesn't really make any sense to me, and seemed equally unusual in the show. The Dothraki are nomadic brutal people that are often lead by strong brutal men who rape women left and right. Daenerys was raped on several different occasions by Khal Drogo and it just seemed out of left field for him to back off and show respect to Daenerys because she is a former Khaleesi. It would make more sense if a Khal took the wives of the Khal he had just killed as his own.

I know, I know a bit nit picky. But it just seemed strange for the Dothraki to have this safe place appear out of nowhere for Daenerys to be taken to.

But, despite that minor detail, I very much enjoyed the episode. Can't wait to hear what you guys thought about it, so feel free to comment below and let me know!

Are you for real @cwm ? It's like the biggest reveal of the episode but it is your article. It's all good there's an even bigger reveal in the next episode

@TimDavidCasey I felt in the grand scheme of the episode it wasn't worth mentioning. I'm interested to see where it leads though as it demonstrated the range of her power but the reveal itself wasn't that interesting to me.

How could you not mention the big reveal at the end of the episode ?

I would have thought that Daenerys' unique physical appearance and the fact that she is the Mother of Dragons would have spread to all the nomadic tribes, yet they only knew Drogo's name.
