Enhancing premium ical and rss feed to include 'show type'

Janner wrote a year ago: 1

I was looking very much into upgrading from bronze to silver, but when I looked at what could be done with the feeds, especially for upcoming shows, I noticed it is not versatile enough for my needs.

For example, https://api.tvmaze.com/ical/countdown?token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx&source=networks&filter=show would cover every single show type coming out.   I am only interested in 'scripted' shows, but the link would also include documentaries, reality shows, and so on.

If the filter could be enhanced to https://api.tvmaze.com/ical/countdown?token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx&source=networks&filter=show&showtype=scripted that would fulfil my needs almost perfectly.

Would this be a lot of work to implement, or is it even doable?

Just thinking, does the RSS feed description include the show type in the description?  If so, I could use the filters of my rss reader to filter only showtype ‘scripted’.

Are you able to provide a screenshot example of all the info that is included in an RSS feed item?

I've had another think about this.  Just recently upgraded to 'silver' and the ical and rss feeds work better than expected. :)

So basically, I have a rss feed for upcoming shows for country-US and country-GB and followed networks, so that I should get another rss feed item through every time one of the 'in development' shows has a first episode added to it.  Just a shame I have to have all show type included when I am only interested in scripted, and with the global web networks (eg Netflix/Amazon), I have to consider all their shows, not just the english speaking ones. Admittedly, if I'm only getting a few feeds through a week/month, it shouldn't be too much of an effort discarding what I don't want, especially seeing as the feed item only shows up once and that's it.  But it would be the icing on the cake if I could have more control over what items are feeding through in the first place.

Hope this site is around for years to come - I'd upgrade to gold if I could afford to.  Keep up the good work.

OK.  I think I have found the best workaround for the time being.

I have this page with filters preset monitored by distill.io on a daily basis:

 https://www.tvmaze.com/shows?Show%5BshowStatus_enum%5D=4&Show%5BshowType_enum%5D=1&Show%5Bgenre%5D=&Show%5Blanguage_enum%5D=35&Show%5Bcountry_enum%5D=&Show%5Bnetwork_id%5D=&Show%5BwebChannel_id%5D=&Show%5Bruntime%5D=&Show%5Brating%5D=&Show%5Bfollowing%5D=&Show%5Bsort%5D=5

This lets me know if another show has been added to 'in development', 'scripted' and 'english' language, 'most recently' added.  So as soon as I am alerted a show has been added, I can then decide to follow it or not.

If followed, I will then get an alert from my RSS feed when an episode has been added - maybe a month from now or a couple of years from now:  https://api.tvmaze.com/rss/countdown?token=xxxxxxxxxxxx&source=followed&filter=show and I will know the show is on the way!  :)

I think that when this existing pending feature here:  https://www.tvmaze.com/threads/2521/tv-countdown-additional-filters has been completed, then my original request will fall into place, but the request seems to be quite a way down the pecking order, so I won't be holding my breath for it to be fully implemented any time soon. :)  (Fair enough if others don't value this feature as much as me). :)

If there is a better way of doing this with existing functionality/features, please feel free to let me know.  :)

That thread is about the countdown page on the site, not necessarily about the API.

Just to be clear, what you're (still) after is a way to filter the Countdown RSS feed to only include scripted shows?

I didn't realise that the API was completely separate. :)

Yes, I want to filter the Countdown RSS feed to include only scripted shows, and if possible for English language programs only.

(I didn't originally mention the language part as I don't want to seem overly ambitious with my request).

So to recap, a Countdown RSS feed to include only scripted shows AND only in the English language is ultimately what I am after.

I don't know if this is too much of an ask, or even possible, but that is what I would like in an ideal world. :)

Added language and showtype source options in the countdown feeds. You can't use them both simultaneously but I hope this helps :)

Thanks.  I'll give it a try later when I have time.  It should be a great help.

Thank you very much for the time and effort you have put into this.  Appreciated.
