The Best TV of the Decade: A 2010s Television Retrospective - Part I Article

The Best TV of the Decade: A 2010s Television Retrospective - Part I

Thanks for the list. I loved The Leftovers and Orphan Black. The only other show on your list I watched was Handmaid's Tale and while I enjoyed the first season, it's dark and depressing tone got to be a little too much for me. I am curious though, and this isn't meant as criticism, but why include the rule about your library needing to own a copy of the DVD? Like you said, that leaves out Transparent and it also leaves out my favorite show The OA (I'm guessing that it probably leaves out many others as well). It seems like Amazon and Netflix would avoid selling hard copies of their original content as a way to keep customers around if they wanted to re-watch their programs. I honestly have zero knowledge as to how many streaming companies produce DVDs of their own shows. So in this era of "peak tv" and with the meteoric rise of streaming services who provide their own content, why cut out such a big chunk of amazing programs just because your library doesn't carry them?

If I had to name my top 5 (without the library rule) I'd have to go with: The OA, Mr.Robot, Westworld, The Magicians and Game of Thrones. I would say that the most underrated show of the decade in my opinion, was the short-lived horror series Outcast. It was based on a comic from the man responsible for creating The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman and it was 10 times better than The Walking Dead. Unfortunately it was stuck on Cinemax, who's known more for their late night soft-core erotic programs than their original content. After 2 seasons and a major cliffhanger finale, Cinemax waited a full year before announcing that everyone's contracts had expired during the long wait and they decided to end the series as the network planned on changing their image moving forward, including a shift towards a specific style of content in the future. The most underrated was a really close call for me though, as I thought Travelers didn't get nearly enough attention. I decided to choose Outcast, because at least Travelers was rescued once by Netflix. And so, after coming dangerously close to creating my own article, I would love to know what you consider your most underrated show of the past decade?
