Jeopardy Episode Title Numbering

Beatrixx_Kiddo posted a year ago

Hi drosso!

I wanted to check in with you before doing any major editing since from what I can tell you have donated a huge amount of your time to keeping this show updated.  In the forums the last post I found regarding this was from 2 yrs ago, I think.  The numbering within the episode titles are off, as you know and from your post I see that you expressed concern that earlier episodes would have to be corrected first.  If I may suggest there could be a way to get the more recent episodes updated sooner.  I don't want to overstep so let me know if this is something that would be ok to discuss further.  It is something I am willing to help correct bc the numbering is actually how I prefer to search the jarchive site when I try to update my watchlist here.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.  I will make only minor edits until then.

Thanks

Omega

All the episode titles of Jeopardy should be correct as I have finished going completely through the series. Our episode numbers would be correct compared to the Jeopardy Archives as they counted repeats as new episodes at the end of the first season on their season 1 page. When looking at the disparity between their season 1 and 2, you will see that where the episode number count on their site picks up in season 2 with the total number of repeats. I am guessing that the Jeopardy Archives is where you are picking up the difference in the episode number count.

Curious about your edits on Jeopardy!- why are all the crew added WAY before episodes air? Is it typically the same crew every episode? I would think it would be best to wait and see the credits first once an episode airs... and what about the directors? Are Russell Norman and Lucinda Owens Margolis on some sort of rotational schedule? How do we already know that Russell directed the 2022 ToC episodes?

The bulk of the crew has stayed the same through out multiple seasons so it has been fairly safe to add them in, I added them in from Jeopardy's website production credits. At the time I added them they had Russel Norman listed and I have had to go back and correct some of them now that I see they are no longer having the same director continuously, I will be waiting until the episode credits to do the directors.. They do seem to be switching back and forth between the two directors now that Clay Jacobsen is no longer directing. I only added in the episodes up to the ToC and nothing after because at this point in time we do not know if the final rounds will end after 3 final episodes or not since they are going to be doing the championship like the GOAT was at the end so it could go up to 7 final rounds. In the past when Jeopardy's website has announced a director for the current season it has been that way for the entire season if that helps and I have added the bulk of the past episodes and crew credits in for jeopardy all the way back to the beginning during the last few years trying to get everything available for tvmaze users so I am very familiar with the consistency of crew members with exceptions being producers changing to co-producers or supervising producers over the years as they get promoted over time. Hope this helps you out, also thank you for keeping the information format the same on your edits, other users who have done the detailed info have changed it all around in the past, adding things to the episode name that are not supposed to be there and not keeping the info in the detailed description in the same way for the best presentation when users are listing the episodes out.

Thanks for the explanation! Does help explain it much better :P

Also, FYI, in case you hadn't know- the Second Chance tournament is coming up starting next week for the next two weeks (October 17-28) and since the schedule is on the website, looks like the October 17-19 and 24-26 episodes can all be updated nicely in advance of them airing.

I knew the second chance tournament was coming up at the start of the season but was unsure how they were going to air it, as part of the regular show airings or as a separate airing like they did with the GOAT championships on a different channel which would have warranted the tournament being added as a separate series. It gets frustrating sometimes with the rules, because in a way, the championships could be considered specials as part of the regular series but it is what it is to quote Danny on Blue Bloods. I hardy ever heard that phrase until I started watching Blue Bloods, now I hear it everywhere including family. LOL

Also, even with using the websites production crew credits, anything different on the episode end credits does take precidence and that has to be the info entered instead of the name for the crew member stated in the official online listing.

FYI, I'm not sure since when, but Marcus Brown has been credited as a writer on the show. I've so far only added him to today's episode, but not entirely sure when he was first credited.

If it's of use, with the number of times the page has been archived on the Wayback Machine, May 24 of this year is the first capture that includes him on the 'writer' list, and his LinkedIn says he's been a writer for the show since January 2023. Also according to J-archive, the first episode taped in 2023 was the March 20 episode.

And lastly, FANDOM claims that his first episode credited as writer was the February 21, 2023 episode.

EDIT: I actually have yet to get around to watching the last 5 episodes of the High School Reunion Tournament and still have them saved on my DVR, so I was actually able to check the credits and add him onto two episodes of those 5 that include the writers in the credits. I'll see what other episodes I have saved/downloaded so I can try and add his credit onto those as well.

I am way behind on watching the episodes, been so busy, just finished watching April 23 and 24ths episode and the end credits show Marcus Brown as a writer on those. I will start going back as I get time to check. I think it is safe to go with fandom, the only thing we have to be careful of is that I have the total episode count for each season corrected and it does not match the J Archives count as there were only 165 new episodes aired in the 1st season then the rest were repeats and J Archive counted the repeats as new episodes and continued the count from there in the 2nd season as if the first season had aired the full 230 normal episodes.

I wanted to take a second to say thank you for keeping the episode summary's uniform to the previous ones as that looks so much better in the presentation when someone does the guide part. Some users in the past have entered the data haphazard  which does not give as good of a screen presentation.

Reading your bio, I have to ask - have you ever watched House of the Long Shadows?

drosso46561 posted a year ago

ROFL; Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, John Carradine. Indeed I have, its one of my favorite movies with the legends of horror actors I think the only ones missing are Boris Karlof, Lon Chaney Jr. And Bela Lugosi. But they had passed by the time the film was made. What a film it would have been if they had been able to be a part of the tale. I love the huge twist at the end of the movie. I really like the gothic horror films, a lot of them draw you in with the plots and the settings in the houses or castles are really something else. Knowing that in a house like that, chances are the furnishings were a collection of generations and their preferences gives a timeless quality almost to a family home.

Recaps

I enjoy reading your Dark Shadows recaps. I hope you would write recaps every episode.

As I get time, I plan on adding them for every episode. They are great for a missed episode. I recorded all of them years ago when Sci-Fi channel ran them. Before they changed their name to Sy-Fy. It seems like when I missed a episode it would always be one where something important happened. Like Reverend Trask getting his just rewards or the conclusion of one of the story arcs.

Hi Drosso,

I'm currently changing all episodes you added to S2020 to S2019. Please note that episodes in 2019 should always be stuck to it's year it's broadcasting in.

Thanks,

drosso46561 posted 4 years ago

Last time I did that, someone in charge changed it. I would rather have left them the way they should be as the 2019 season runs from September 2019 to July 2020.
