Black Mirror is the show that everyone should be talking about, but nobody is

blackmirror.jpgBlack Mirror is a show that I didn't hear about from Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, or any other site. In fact, I heard about this fantastic show from my sister who told my I should watch it because she thought I would enjoy it.

Well, she was absolutely correct. I've watched every single episode, including the Christmas special all in around a week. It's a fantastic show that everybody should be watching because it is made for nearly everyone.

You like sci-fi? Black Mirror. You like drama? Black Mirror. You like fantastic writing and character driven stories? Black Mirror. It's for everyone and the best part....it's on Netflix. All the episodes are there, except for the most recent one, but you can watch them. AND, there aren't that many of them because there are only 3 episodes in a season and the episodes are only 45 minutes. This is no epic series with 10 seasons and 22 episodes each, this show is doable and well worth it.

Black Mirror is similar to Twilight Zone in that every episode has different characters, different actors, and a different story. The main theme surrounding this show is humanity's relationship to technology and through that the relationship that humanity has with itself. For example, my favorite episode entitled The Entire History of You portrays the relationship of Liam (Toby Kebbell) and Ffion (Jodie Whittaker) at a pivotal point within their life. Oh yes, there is one major thing that influences how this episode pans out. There's this device called the Grain which records everything you do, from your point of view. This allows you to revisit past events from when you were a baby, they mention children suing their parents for neglect because the Grain allows you to revisit these memories, or just a few moments ago. While viewing these memories, you can zoom in, have lip reading done, and also project them onto the screen. When people delete their memories, it shows a gap within the memory scan of that individual thus signifying that the memory has been deleted. Through the use of this device, Liam is able to revisit various events and study them, which, progresses the plot.

This is one of 7 fantastic episodes that make this show perfect for streaming. One of the best parts is how deep the writers become immersed within the world they created. The utilize the technology that they created intelligently as if it has existed all along,

Sometimes, some technology isn't even involved with the progression of the plot. For example in Be Right Back, the viewer witnesses Martha (Hayley Atwell) manipulate a computer-like device that allows her to use pens and markers. It appears to be similar to that of a smart board but the design of it is so beautiful and almost no attention is drawn to this incredible technology that is located within an English country side home.

So, my sister told me about this show, and I'm going to pay society forward. Watch this show. It is fantastic, easily stream-able, and already available on Netflix. I mean...why not.

I became interested in Black Mirror after the name floated past me too many times to ignore. Thanks to your review, I finally took the time to discover what the excitement was all about.

My introduction to the series - s03e01 Nosedive - left me feeling both highly entertained, yet eerily disturbed at the same time.

Black Mirror has been portrayed as 'a Twilight Zone ten minutes into the future if we're not careful', which sums it up perfectly: the subtle, dystopian horror wrapped in pastel-colored, Paul-Verhoeven-type aesthetics simply sits too close for comfort.

In short: the excellent writing, great acting and superb production place this series firmly at the top of my ‘Must Binge ASAP’ list.

Black Mirror is such an amazing show. It is sick and twisted, but really awesome and different! Give the first episode a try...or even the Christmas special. If you like either of those episodes you will want to watch all the rest.

I watched two episodes last night out of curiosity. Thank you for writing about it or I would probably not have checked it out. Very refreshing, very disturbing.
