The Strain, based on the book of the same name has just come to the end of the first season. The show gave us a new type of vampire unlike those from other shows such as True Blood or The Vampire Diaries; romance is completely removed. The vampires are presented more like parasites or a virus that transforms the host.
Completely unconventionally all organs are completely transformed and a large stinger is used to deploy against targets to spread the virus and feed. The newly turned vampires appear completely dead for an entire day and take a while to take on the form of a full vampire.
The characters of Dr Goodweather and the pawnbroker (that has been fighting the vampires his entire life) are quickly introduced. A team of small fighters against the threat are shown to us including the unlikely rat exterminator (Vasiliy Fet). Einhhorst is a character that is quickly introduced to be serving the master and later shown to have a significant influence in Abraham's past. We are first thought to believe that all of the vampires were under control of one master.
As the season progresses we are introduced to more and more fully functioning vampires instead of just drones. The introduction of the master led us to believe that there was one lead vampire although Gus' abduction may suggest otherwise. We have to ask, who are the powerful vampires he met? Will they take action against the master? What will become of the team's quest to destroy the master and what do we think approaches us in the renewed season?

I am glad Corey Stoll's hairpiece has decided to make a swift exit. The wig sure did leave me confused for a couple episodes before I figured out where I had seen Corey Stoll before...!
