The Good Wife Comes to an End!

After 7 seasons, the show created by Michelle King and Robert King starring Julianna Margulies has come to a close. And I'm not at all happy with how it ended. For those who haven't watched the show or haven't caught the finale, please read no further because I'm going to discuss not only the problems I had with the finale, but problems I had with the show altogether.

So first, the finale. The show is called the Good Wife and what does the last few episodes focus on, mainly? Peter's (Chris Noth) problems. His court troubles. Whether or not he will go to jail. Did he do it? Can we prove that he didn't do it? Is he corrupt? Give me a break. I don't care about Peter and honestly haven't throughout this show. Give me Alicia. Give me Diane (Christine Baranski). Give me Lucca (Cush Jumbo). Give me Eli (Alan Cumming). GIVE ME CARY (Matt Czurchy). But why you say, all of these characters were present in the finale? What more do you want? They were present, you're absolutely right. but they were all serving Peter and I didn't care at all about Peter's case. I wanted to know what the law firm was going to look with, with Lucca, Diane, and Alicia. Oh Cary is teaching now? That's cool, would have like to see that developed more.

And sweet Jesus, I openly groaned when Peter found out that his donors would be moving to Alicia. Why include this in the finale? So we could see him and Eli fight? For what purpose. THIS IS THE LAST EPISODE. I'm not asking for a fairy tale ending but good God did this feel like it ended in the middle of a season.

Alicia ending up alone after all of this was incredibly frustrating as well. From her dream sessions with Will (Josh Charles) one would assume that she was okay with moving on within her relationship with Jason (Jefferey Dean Morgan) but no. She asks him to wait and he just disappears off screen. No rhyme or reason just gone. GREAT. FANTASTIC. LOVE IT. My girlfriend and I got into a heated debate about what we wanted for Alicia and where she should end up. I would have liked it if she ended up with Jason and my girlfriend would have liked it if she ended up alone, content with herself. Welp, neither of us were pleased as not only did she end up alone but she chased a phantom Jason off stage only to find out it wasn't him.

Which then lead to the slap heard around the world. It was a great scene and made sense but Gee Willikers the reason for this to occur made absolutely no sense. Alicia appeared disinterested in what happened to Peter, in fact she even makes this claim to Diane, and yet she decides, with the assistance of Lucca who has no qualms with this plan whatsoever, WHICH MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE, to drag Diane's husband through the mud by demanding that he answer a question, under oath, regarding a potential affair he had. This made no sense. Why would Alicia do this, she literally told Diane she didn't care what happened to Peter. Why would Lucca participate in this, she has had an excellent moral compass displayed predominantly on other episodes. These characters were acting in ways that made no sense given what we knew about them from watching their growth over 7 years.

This finale was a slap in the face, almost, if you will, as if Diane was slapping us all for no real reason.

So that's it. That's all I'll say about the finale, and may it rest in peace alongside Dexter and True Detective season 2.

Now the show, overall, was pretty good. It had a fairly diverse cast and explored problems with the growth of technology in ways that other shows really haven't. But it also had a number of problems and I predict that shows like this, the 22 episode 7 seasons show, will become less and less of a thing as time goes on.

Because this show suffered from it. Josh Charles and Archie Panjabi both left and both were major characters. Matthew Goode was on there for a season and then vanished. It was frustrating and I feel for the actors. 22 episodes is a ton for a single season and it's no wonder why Panjabi and Charles left, they didn't want to stick around for the next 4 to 5 years shooting this show. That's why I think limited series will start to become more of a thing. A single story, told in one season and the actors only have to sign up for one season. I mean imagine if Game of Thrones seasons were 22 episodes long. I mean I would love it but I would also feel for those actors.

I also think the show just ran out of steam. Alicia joined the firm, left the firm, started her own firm, joined her old firm, ran for state's attorney, left the race, then went back to starting her own firm again, only to join her old firm again. There were only so many times that we could witness her building herself up only to hate herself and her coworkers when she joined a bigger firm. It was repetitive and made me lose some interest in the show. It would have been interesting had she won her election, became state's attorney and then had to deal with Peter's issues from when he was a state's attorney and deal with Cary and Diane as well. There would have been a lot more room for that show to grow, in my opinion, if it had gone in this direction.

Despite this, I still will miss it. But what are your thoughts on the finale and the show overall. Comment below to let me know what you think!

Overall, this has been one of my favorite shows, despite some storylines I cared less for.

But the final season was the worst, including the ending.

And as cwm, I think it would have been (more) interesting to see Alicia win the state attorney election, and dealing with that situation.

I always enjoyed watching this show, up until about Season 4. From Season 5 or so, it just started to go downhill and by Season 7 I just couldn't watch it after the first couple of episodes.

The story just fell off the rails to the point where it become boring.

I was very sad to see this amazing series go. Still one of my all-time favorites.
