Aoi or Fukami, mistakenly known as The Laughing Man, is an Archivist that has his own private collections, and an unofficial member of Section 9. He seems to be close enough physiology to The Major. He became famous for a public confrontation with an Executive working at Serano, a corrupt medical supplies company. When he realized this, he picked an avatar to mask his identity and inserted that identity in the brains and cameras every where. The logo is of a man laughing with the words surrounding him: "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes." taken from The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger. He spent most of his time in hiding pretending to be such and wrote on the wall the same quote with a modified end: " ... Or Should I?" when it should have continued as: "That way I wouldn't have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody. If anybody wanted to tell me something they'd have to write it on a piece of paper and shove it over to me. They'd get bored as hell doing that after a while, and then I'd be through with having conversations for the rest of my life.". During his time pretending to be a Deaf - Mute, all the other medical supplies companies staged Laughing Man attacks to participate in fraudulent Insurance Fraud and Stock Fraud that resulted in the deaths of people hacked ... including people pretending to be The Laughing Man. This forced Aoi out of hiding of which he resumed putting the avatar over his head or just removing his image entirely when spotted. The Major attracted his attention which resulted in him saving her life. As repayment, she was able to pose as him easily. The Major installed his voice and wore the same type of fuzzy hoodie that he does in order to record a Confession by the same Serano executive. Towards the end of the season the entire Section 9 was in hiding. When they came out of hiding, they arrested every body. The Chief and The Major thanked him personally. They recruited Aoi, who said he is not a team player. All participation by him is done as Anonymous as possible.
