Annabel is 17 and very privileged. The Justice Minister's daughter, she attends Strathalmond, an elite boarding school in the Scottish countryside. She has a crush on her teacher, Stuart, who she confides in about a conversation she overheard between her mother and father about Julie Mackie's death. Stuart has gambling debts and tries to sell this story to Samantha Wishart, setting in motion the chain of events that leads to Annabel's kidnapping.
