Doctor Ritsuko Akagi is a commanding scientist for N.E.R.V., being raised there by her mother. Her mother Naoko also worked at N.E.R.V., and supposedly commited suicide the moment she encountered Rei who was unexpecedly blunt with her. Naoko was very impulsive and strangled Rei immediately. Now the love fantasy with Gendo would never happen as a result, she decided to take her own life as well. Since then, her daughter Ritsuko was placed in charge with cloning Rei. Ritsuko also knows the secret of Maji, which is an impervous supercomputer that contains a massive prototype organic brain. This brain believes that she is Naoko. Ritsuko envies the success in her mother's career, yet hates the type of person she became. Nevertheless, Ritsuko is just as unethical as her mother. She has no issues with killing the Eva Pilots, and intends to start a relationship with Gendo.
