Gendo Ikari, formerly Rokubungi, is usually the one in charge of N.E.R.V., and the father of Shinji, and probably Rei. He realized very early that he is unable to have a family when the world's survival is at stake, and decides to manipulate them instead of recruiting soldiers. His wife Yui ended up being converted to a Eva, while Shinji is kept completely in the dark. He agrees to send Shinji to Misato, and otherwise wants to show practically no affection towards his son. Meanwhile, Gendo is obsessed with Rei, who secretly is revolted towards him.
