Ye Wenjie

Born to academics, Ye Zhetai and Shao Lin, Ye Wenjie is an astrophysics prodigy and her dad's star pupil. Tragically, she witnesses her father's violent death during a struggle session when she's just a young student at Beijing Tsinghua University in 1966. She's forever changed by the experience. Feeling utterly alone and disheartened after the Chinese Cultural Revolution destroys everything she holds dear, she finds comfort in learning that in nature nothing exists alone. That sense of connection gives her a newfound faith.
