Jane is one of Daria's friends. Despite hating Lawndale, it is her home, and is much more comfortable than Daria. There are many times that she is accepted into extra curricular activities that she enjoys which Daria tells Jane is a Sell Out. She has numerous siblings that frequently visit, and of course Trent, who lives there all the time. Their parents are award winning artists, and travel the world. Jane is not a smart as Jodie, Daria, and Tom which is one of her insecurities. Jane and Tom dated until the relationship fell apart as he is much more compatible with Daria. Eventually, Jane goes to college.
