Georgette was introduced during season 3 as a coworker of Rhoda. She and Rhoda had worked at various jobs together. These include department stores, cab driving, and selling plants. Eventually she appeared in The Ted And Georgette Show, an in-universe show at WJM-TV. She became the wife of Ted and they followed in the footsteps of Murray and adopted a son. They also had a child together.
Georgette is known for her kind, sweet, gentle, and quiet personality. She sometimes becomes very stern without ever even having to yell.
Georgette was somewhat named after her actress Georgia Engel, which continues after naming Ted after actor Ted Knight, and Mary Richards after actress Mary Tyler Moore. Additionally, Georgette somewhat followed in the footsteps of three other characters who were given their own shows: Rhoda, Phillis, and Lou; and directly followed in the footsteps of Gordy, who starred in an unrelated programme. Sue Ann was another character who got her own, although unrelated, show. Georgia Engel and Betty White co-starred in the same show together immediately after Mary Tyler Moore, called The Betty White Show.
